RINGS TELL THE STORY
The Cleveland Cavaliers commemorated their first NBA Championship in a historic pregame ceremony, highlighted by the presentation of Championship rings, prior to their 2016-17 season opener vs. the New York Knicks on Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, joined by Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert and vice-chairmen Nate Forbes and Jeff Cohen, along with General Manager David Griffin, presented Cavs players and coaches with their distinctive Championship rings that celebrate the team’s journey that delivered the first-ever NBA title and the first major sports championship in 52 years to the city of Cleveland.
In brilliant detail, the jeweled band captures the story of the Cavaliers historic and dramatic championship run to become the only team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win the NBA Championship when they defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 7, 93-89.
The approximately 6.5 carat ring is encrusted with over 400 diamonds plus a one carat diamond that adorns the top of the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Each ring is set in 10K white gold and 14K yellow gold and is the heaviest NBA Championship ring ever made, weighing in at 165 grams and 105 pennyweights.
Northeast Ohio-based Kay Jewelers, the number one jewelry store in America, is the Official Provider of the Cavaliers 2016 Championship Ring. “We are thrilled to be the Official Ring Provider of the 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers,” said Mark Light, CEO, Kay Jewelers. “As a proud northeast Ohio-based business, we shared in the excitement the Cavs brought to this area in delivering the first major sports championship in 52 years, and are honored to present a championship ring worthy of such a historic achievement.”
For over 25 years, Baron Championship Rings has manufactured custom championship rings that celebrate the accomplishments of championship teams around the world. “We were honored to partner with the Cavaliers to celebrate the amazing story of the team’s historic journey to winning its first NBA Championship,” said Peter Kanis, president of Baron Championship Rings.”
ALL FOR ONE. WON FOR ALL.
While the Cavs player rings are truly unique and exclusive to the team, over 2,000 full and part time Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena “Team Behind the Team,” members will also receive their very own Championship Ring courtesy of Dan Gilbert and the Cavs ownership group. The rings are similar to, and inspired by, the player rings in their design and related story elements. This ring program is a showing of appreciation that celebrates and rewards the hard work and dedication from everyone across the organization, no matter what their specific role was, in the Cavaliers championship journey.
